Rock Band is a great game that has been introducing many people to the joy of making music. It is fun, challenging and stimulating. Many of my students started out playing the game and realized their love of drumming. They then sought out private lessons to take their drumming to the next level! There are several parallels to Rock Band drumming and "real life drumming." Both require multi-limb coordination and good hand/eye coordination. The pads in Rock Band aren't quite set up like a real drum set, but many of the rhythms played, especially in the higher skill settings are similar to how the particular song would be played on a real set of drums.
